As summer draws closer everyone is becoming more aware of the possible or if not further water restrictions that may take place, making people look for an alternative to the natural grass they may currently have.Maintaining nice green grass can be very time consuming and expensive. A great alternative that should be considered is Synthetic Grass. Synthetic grass offers owners the look and feel of natural lawn but without all the maintenance hassles that go along with natural grass.

There are many names for synthetic grass; it is also known as Astroturf, artificial grass or fake grass. The original synthetic grass that was released in the 1970’s has come a long way since then; it is a very serious business now as the synthetic grass has been improved enormously, with the look and feel being like natural grass. If you drove past a house that had synthetic grass you would most probably think it is natural grass. The most common original type synthetic grass has been the short pile as it is more hard wearing. This type of synthetic grass is generally used for sporting facilities or children’s playgrounds. The new long pile synthetic grass that has been released is extremely popular for it realistic appeal. Many professional sporting fields are now using synthetic grass especially since FIFA have approved the product.Since the longer pile grass has been introduced, it has allowed players to slide on the ground better without getting friction burns and it also gives better traction. The way the synthetic grass is laid with fine sand granules underneath gives a cushioning affect.Synthetic grass is becoming increasingly popular at residential homes as many homeowners do not have the time to water and maintain their lawn to a point that it looks good. Synthetic lawn is great to be laid in those hard to reaches places or areas that are prone to erosion. Installation of artificial grass is very easy; it can be placed over a number of different bases such as dirt, compact road base, rubber or concrete. To hold the artificial grass in place it is generally pegged down or the sand and rubber infill will generally keep it in place.

Synthetic grass can be a little expensive, but just think of the benefits you will be getting, not to mention the long term savings on watering, cutting, pruning and mostly your time.
